Watercolor Classes

Painting watercolors is a rewarding experience – all you really need is a sense of adventure.

Beginners are welcome, because beginners learn just as quickly and are sometimes less inhibited! But whether you’ve painted before or not, learn to break free from limitation. Create the “loose and carefree” look. Add extra techniques to your repertoire or improve upon what you already know. Remember, every painting is a bold experiment.

I conduct private lessons, where you get the most out of personalized instruction. I do not offer ongoing group classes.

My Techniques

I instruct with clarity and patience each step of the way so students do not get confused, lost, or left behind.

Unlike the usual methods being taught where you draw the subject matter and paint each area like a coloring book, in my classes there is no need to draw in most cases. The absence of boundaries frees your mind and allows you to paint with a sure, relaxed hand.

I teach based on the principle that painting watercolor is a dance between you and the medium. There may be guidelines to follow, but the dance is fun. There is a flow about this interplay that is spontaneous, and makes painting refreshing and satisfying.

The class begins with a series of studies — where I demonstrate each technique and you practice it till you gain confidence. Then you implement what you’ve learned and complete a painting you can be proud of by the end of the 3-hour class.
